REAL PIRATE ARTIFACTS - PORT ROYAL 1692:
$149.99

This collection of pirate artifacts comes with certificates from The Gallant Pelham Military Antiques in Virginia and signed notes from the diver\'s grandson. These were all bought from that antique store.

  • The first item is a gentleman\'s bronze buckle, found at Port Royal, Jamaica. The certificate says it\'s a shoe buckle, but I think that it\'s a sash buckle, as worn by a pirate on his heavy sash. It is fairly heavy and well made. It is 1 7/16\" x2\" with a rope design around the outside. It is in as-found condition with some green corrosion and salt stain.
  • The pirate swivel gun shot, found at Port Royal, were found among the ruins of what appeared to be a blacksmith\'s shop along the old sunken shore line that sunk in the earthquake in 1692. This shot is for a half pounder. It\'s a rather poor quality cast and is unfinished, as it still has a mold ridge around one side. It is 1 5/16\" diameter with pitting and dark brown patina.
  • The first set of buttons are six, locally-made, coral-encrusted buttons found in the pirate stronghold of Port Royal in 1952 by David Davis, who was a Navy diver. These were found among the ruins of an old stone building that may have been a tavern. There are two 7/8\" diameter and four 5/8\" diameter buttons. All the buttons have a rear shank on them. They are in excellent condition.
  • The second set of buttons are flat buttons that were also found in 1952 with a similar history of the first set. There are eleven buttons in this set. Some of have their shanks. All have been out of the water for over 50 years.
  • The third set of buttons are listed as brass colonial buttons, but I cannot tell if they are brass or copper. Some of them look brass. There are eight of these buttons in the set. They were also found among the ruins of the old stone building that may have been a tavern.

All sales final.
