Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration.St James was introduced in 1881, and made for about 10 years. The design is an Aesthetic one featuring a a pointed frame with asymmetrical flower arrangement and a Spanish fan on the terminus. The \'preserves\' referred to with this type of spoon are fruit preserves. They are different from jelly in that the fruit tends to be whole rather than cut up. Generally, a preserve spoon is midway in size between a sugar shell and a berry shell. It looks like a really big sugar or very small berry. They are excellent for serving things that no one eats a lot of. The preserve spoon offered here measures about 6 3/4”. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of as much as 135 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is heel wear and a bit of silver loss in the bowl, both the result of age and reasonable use. The pattern is crisp and clear. I polish all silver before listing on .
