Tittensor - \"Land of Nod\" - Extremely RARE
DescriptionHigh quality porcelain figurine by Royal Doulton. The piece was designed by Harry Titterson and manufactured between the years of 1918 and 1938.
What we are offering is the very particular figurine of a little beautiful boy dressed in a nice sky blue cape and holding a little candlestick. On his feet we see a big eyed owl. Both of the figurines are standing in a base with an inscription.
The magnificent piece we offer presents important differences with other hHN56\'s figurines that appear in the Royal Doulton catalogue. To get started, we´d like to remark the differences that make this figurine unique and exclusive. The piece itself, should be 24.1 cm. instead it is 25cm. Another difference with the ordinary figurines is that the position of the head, that should look forward, but instead it is slightly twisted to a side.
Moreover, we´d like to mention that there are 3 different models of this beautiful figurine: HN56, with a ivory and green candlestick, HN56a, with a light grey and green candlestick, and HN56b with light grey and red candlestick. This porcelain figurine is the HN56a model, but instead of having the colors we previously mentioned, it presents the peculiarity that the candlestick is light grey and sky-blue.
Also, an important detail is a manufacturing mistake in the glaze of the paint, something very unusual between Royal Doulton products (fully scanned).
It is remarkable to mention that the piece doesn’t present any scratch nor chip and that it hasn’t ever been restored. Between other details, we´d like to add that the front part of the base where the owl and the boy are standing has the following inscription: “\"But every night I go abroad, Afar, into the Land of Nod\" and in the back part its signed “H. Tittensor”.
Under the piece there´s an inscription of “Land of Nod”,”H. Tittensor”, “Potted by Doulton & Co”. In the inside of the figurine its stamped with the old Royal Doulton mark, next to the piece code (HN56a) and numbered “7.18”.
To our understanding and knowledge, this antique is unique and the differences it presents make it an exceptional masterpiece.Dimensions: 9,7/8\'\' tall (250mm)
