I just purchased this vintage Royal Doulton figurine from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The figure depicts Omar Khayyam, famed 12th century Persian polymath, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer and poet. The figure is Royal Doulton\'s No. HN 2247 which was designed by famed modeler Mary Nicholl, (originally issued in 1965, and retired in 1983). The piece is beautifully executed with crisp mold and fine embossed detail to the figure\'s facial features and period attire. The under glaze hand painting shows rich color and excellent coverage. The piece measures 6\" high, 4 ¾\" wide and 3 ¾\" deep. The base bears the \"ROYAL DOULTON\" \"MADE IN ENGLAND\" green crest, \"HN 2247\" \"COPR 1964\" and \"Rd No 917062\". The figure is in excellent condition with no damage or noted wear, it appears like new without the original box.
