The workshop ofNicholls & Plincke provided silverware to the Tsars, startingwith Christmas presents made for Nicholas I in the 1830s, to laterbecome the main supplier to the imperial court. They produced silversets for the dowries for all three Tsar daughters, Grand DuchessMaria Nikolaevna (1839), Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna (1840) andGrand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna (1843), contributed to the Londonservice of Tsar Alexander II and the Orlov service.

Cooperation withother British workshops and local masters allowed to take part incommissions such as fireplaces for the Malachite Room in the WinterPalace (1838–39) or decorating of the malachite columns for themain iconostasis in St Isaac’s Cathedral (1844–48). Nicholls &Plincke were also makers of the Russian orders (1855-1880).

The firm was closed1880, due to the raising competition of other workshops, such as theone of Peter Carl Fabergé.
