Russian Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarevich Alexei *Russian Icon:
$99.00

Icon of the Passion-Bearer Saints: Tsar Nicholas, Tsarevich Alexei, and Tsarina Alexandra. Tsar Nicholas is in medieval clothing and wearing the Cap of Monomakh, the symbolic crown of the Russian Tsars. The scroll, in Church Slavonic, reads: \"For a righteous and blameless man became a subject for mockery, for it had been ordained that he should fall under others at the appointed time, and that his house should be laid to waste by the lawless\". [Job 12:4]. Alexei holds the icon of the \"Reigning\" Mother of God. It appeared in the village of Kolomna, near Moscow, on March 2nd, 1917, the day on which Nicholas II abdicated the throne. This icon was found amid the odds and ends and dust in a basement, following the directions given by a certain deeply pious, God-fearing woman, who had thrice received a vision while asleep. There had appeared to her a large, very dark icon of the Mother of God wearing a robe of royal purple, a crown on her head, holding the scepter and orb of the Russian sovereigns, and seated on a throne, a sign that she has taken upon herself the burden of the Supreme Authority in the Russian realm. Tsarina Alexandra holds a simple wooden cross.

About 12x14 inches. Lavishly decorated with twisted wire and faux gems. Icon is a print. Overall good condition. Made circa 1999.
