I have gathered themover the last 2 years from deceased estate sales all around thecountry. Most of the American figural napkin rings were madec1860-1899, and I believe a lot of them found there way to Australia inthe gold-rush period in Australia in the 1870/1890\'s.Ihavelisted them nowas they have accumulated over thelast 2 years while I have been engaged in a big supreme courtaction. This is a lovely antique Americansilver/silverplate figural napkin ring. It has a sailor pushing barrel. The barrel does not look like a barrel per se besides in its shape. I haveseen this figural napkin ring where barrel looks like a woodenbarrel with wood grain, and also one where the ring is just plaincircular round. I have not see this particualr ring before so it is quiterare...to very rare. It is not marked as to maker or number as far as I can see. One of the figural napkin rings similar to this one is shown in thebook byGottschalk and Whitson (G&W), in plate 649 on page 263. They valuedit as between $200 and $350 in 1996, 19 years ago. Tht one was made by Meriden Britannia Company. This one is probably also mde by Meriden. It is a rare figural napkin ring, as it is slightly different asdescribed above.
This figural napkin ringis ingood condition.Norepairs. No major damage. Nomissing parts. No pitting. Some plate loss where handled on thering/holder. Some plate loss on boys arm. Some dents on edge of ringand one inside the ring where theboy\'s hand meets the ring with a tiny tear. Remember it is 140years old though, and you know it is authentic. Ring is slightly out ofround and there are a a few scratches. See photos. I have not polishedit; just washed it quickly in warm soapy part of the description) and ask anyquestions if you have any | Froo | Froo Cross Sell, Free Cross Sell, Cross promote, Marketing, listing Apps, Apps, Application
