Here I have an impressive rare large hand forged iron genuine Balinese Antique BetelNut Cutter ofRooster Figural Chicken Form with simple engraving and straight handles, made I around the late 18thearly19thcentury. Weighing 179g unpacked and measuring 23cm (9in). Thehinge works fine, it has some nice old deep patina and signs of usage, the iron design around the head looks damaged, however it feels strong. Excellent for its age! (I hopethe photos show - see No.11 photo) It has character and is individual, possibly older than estimated, it’s a lovely piece. Thetraditional of chewing the mixture of areca nut and betel leaf is an ancientand common ritual in and around Asia fromthousands of years ago. Malaycultures hold betel nut and leaves in high regard. Guests would be presented witha tray of areca nuts and betel leaves, an important social activity, not socommon now hence these items becoming rare! This cutter was part of collection of a superb varietyof others artifacts from Indonesiaover 20years ago by family, who lived and worked in Jakartaand Bali. Also collected were many other piecesof brass, spun bowls, betel nut containers etc. I will be gradually listing. Icould combine postage costs for these very collectable items. Thank you forlooking!
