SAMBURU (KENYA) TWIG STYLE HEADREST/NECKREST/STOOL, HONEY PATINA, TRIBAL USE:
$125.00

Old Samburu twig-style headrest and traveling stool. It was common across southern Sudan, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya for people to fashion headrests from \"found\" pieces of wood and root. These were often worked in some way, but also purposefully chosen for their abstract and creative forms. Decades of use turned these pieces into soft and patina-rich beauties. This piece is an especially solid form that would have functioned as a stool for use by day and a pillow by night.Like all well-used tribal pieces, this piece has minor imperfections from the hand tools used in its construction, and from the wear and tear of extensive tribal use. This piece is part of a large private collection that is being broken up.Dimensions: 7 H / 13.4 W / 9 D inchesWeight: 2 lb. 0.6 oz.
