Welcome Fellow Vintage and AntiqueHallowe\'en and Paper Ephemera Enthusiasts!Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of vintage andantique Hallowe\'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter memorabilia, antiquedolls, old toys, and lovely old china and glassware. For your all-year-long Hallowe’en loving pleasure we are HAUNTINGly happy topresent a FRIGHTfully fabulous example of Germany’s scarce perched owl diecutdecoration. This one is in DARN CLOSE TO MINT condition!Please meet Horace. He was made from thick, heavily-embossed cardboard orpressed paper pulp and painted in superb colors of rich black with a bit of asheen, old brownish-orange, andGHOULISH green metallic paint was used toaccent his eyes. This green paint, which looks positively eerie in candlelight,is often the first area to show wear on these old diecuts. Horace, however, hasMAGICally magnificent metallic green paint that is in perfect condition! Measuring just under8 ½” high x 4” wide, Horace is imposing to say the least.He has no damage – there are no bends, no creases whatsoever, and there is nowear to his hanging hole placed there by the manufacturers. He retains hisoriginal hanging string, which will make decorating with him a breeze. There isa tiny bit of wear to the orange paint – however, some of this was doneintentionally when Horace was made to create an immediate aged and oh-so-Hallowe\'enyeffect. Horace was cut at a slight angle at the base of his tail feathers,which was done by the manufacturers when he was made. He is embossed Germanybetween his talons on his branch. This is without question one of the nicest examples of this ravishing raptorthat Ziz has ever seen and he hails from our personal collection. His heavyembossing, which simulates real feathers, is very effective. It has been Ziz’spleasure to know several examples of this owl diecut. Each one is a littledifferent. Horace is very dark with only a very small amount of the intentionalshading done by the German manufacturers. One similar to Horace can be seen onpage 163 of Mark B. Ledenbach’s outstanding book “Vintage HalloweenCollectibles; An Identification & Price Guide (Second Edition)”. Using hisrelative scarcity index, Mark has assigned the number “3” for this diecut,which means SCARCE. This oh-so-spooky cool decoration, made during the Flapper Days of the 1920s,would be an outstanding acquisition for collectors who demand pieces in thevery best condition.
