VERY RARE CHARLES SCHNEIDER – LE VERRE FRANCAIS ART-DECO CAMEO GLASS VEILLEUSE “PIVOINES”
FRANCE CIRCA 1927 – 1928
Out for a offer is this superb piece of French art-glass created by the renowned firm of Charles Schneider for the Le Verre Francais trade line. Certainly a highly decorative piece with an eye catching design. A gorgeous cameo glass veilleuse ( night-light ) decorated with the “Pivoines” pattern. The “Pivoines” décor was introduced circa 1927 – 1928 ( Joulin – Maier p. 168-169 ) and as all the floral patterns is always a pleasing to a collector. A colourful and attractive design like “Amourettes”, “Begonias”, “Groseilles” or “Primerolles” that resumes a genuine Art-Deco style where bright and vivid colours define a stylized naturalistic motif. The gently cameo-cut glass shade of elongated ovoid form on open foot with domed top in gray glass mottled with brilliant lemon-yellow streaked with orange-red is overlaid in mottled orange and red shading to deep burgundy and finely acid-cut with stylized peony blossoms, buds and leafage. A rarely seen ‘luminaire’ presented complete with a wrought-iron trefoil leaf form base. A delightful and fine piece with delicate and appealing décor, measuring approx. 6.5 in. ( 16.5 cm. ) in height and in great antique condition. Lately rewired and in working order. Signed intaglio in script CHARDER - LE VERRE FRANCAIS on the base’s lip. A fabulous Art-Deco item with elegant form, attractive décor, great workmanship and remarkable condition. It is Schneider at its best. Manufactured in France circa 1927 – 1928, during the Art-Deco era.
