A wonderful set of books, Richard Wagner\'s Opera, The Ring Cycle, Ring of The Nibelungs, illustrated by Arthur Rackham, Limited Signed Editions, two volumes, 1910 and 1911, Siegfried & the Twilight of the Gods, and The Rhinegold and The Valkyrie, very special as an exceptional bright set in superb gilt vellum.

Arthur Rackham\'s beautiful illustrations to these operas have served as an inspiration to the best known stage production, and are amongst the best known works from The Golden Age of Illustration. Enjoy!

Published by William Heinemann,London, 1911. Very special as Limited Editions of 1150 copies, signed by the illustrator, Arthur Rackham on the limitation page. Beautifully and profusely illustrated with thirty-four tipped-in full colour plates in each volume, and numerous black and white small drawings and vignettes, decorative titles and chapter headings. Finely bound in new gilt vellum with silk ties, red silk bookmarks. Top Edge Gilt, others uncut. Text on handmade, watermarked, antique style laid English paper, similar to watercolour papers. The paper wonderful to the touch. Impressive, thick oversized quartos, in fantastic bindings, superbly illustrated and signed by Rackham. Book condition: Fine externally and internally, excepting the even typical browning to pages adjacent to the brown plate mounts ( typical and noted on every copy of this edition), some very pale light spotting to tissues, again due to their proximity to the brown mounts, which are not entirely acid free and overtime produce a ghosting and light spotting effect. All other pages exceptionally bright and not at all yellowed by time - please see the photos. All of the superbly entertaining and charming plates after Arthur Rackham\'s excellent watercolours are in fine condition without creases, all tissues in good condition, no bookplates or inscriptions or any detracting marks. A gorgeous, gift quality set of these wonderful books, rarely seen in such fanastic condition, with an elegant black slipcase.
