Solid Silver CRIPPLEGATE Rifle Club Spoon, 1910, FREE P&P (UK)

Cripplegate Rifle Club Spoon, marked “CRIPPLEGATE RIFLE CLUB” and “PRO ARIS ET FOCIS”, translates as “For God and Country”.

The spoon is in excellent condition and features an image of Cripplegate (Cripplegate was a gate in the London Wall and a name for the region of the City of London outside the gate, the area was almost entirely destroyed in the Blitz of World War II and today it is the site of the Barbican Estate and Barbican Centre, the name is preserved in the church of St Giles-without-Cripplegate, in the Cripplegate ward of the City, and in a small road named Cripplegate Street), the words Cripplegate Rifle Club encircle the gate with the moto beneath, the whole spoon is bright silver (pictures not quite doing it justice).

It is hallmarked for 1910 (s), Sheffield, the maker is John Round & Sons Ltd.

The spoon is 11.2 cm (4.4 inches) long and weighs 18.3 grams (0.65 ounces).

This is a very nice example, not over-polished, no dings or dents, very little wear, and has clear hallmarks.

Item will be well packed for safe delivery. Postage as indicated for the UK, at cost for the rest of the world.

A great addition to any collection of rifle club silver spoons, which were normally used as competition prizes.
