SUBERB ANTIQUE CHINESE DEEPLY CARVED COW BONE CARD CASE CA. 1850:

This is a superbantique Chinese deeply carved cowbone card case, likely made in Canton, ca. 1850. The case features stunningdetailing onboth sides and has particularlyintricate, deepcarving. On one side the carved detail is contained in a large cross, featuring a vacantoval reserve. The other side features similar carved detail in twoserpentine-edged reserves. The caseis decoratedwith the veryfinestcarveddetailincorporating various intricate figures, buildings, trees, foliage and flowers, thedepth of carvingproviding excellent contrast.

Thecase measures 11.4 cm (4 1/2 in.) in length, 7.3 cm (2 7/8 in.) in width, and 1.0 cm (3/8 in.) in width. It weighs 79 grams (2.8 ozs.). It isin excellent condition for itsage. It has the mellow, natural,creamy patina of age. There are small age hairlines on the case lid and body. Thesedo not detract from the extraordinary beauty of this card case.
