This is a superb wooden walnut carving of the sheep\'s head with the inkwell underneath the lid mounted onto the olive wood base with pen tray of which:
During our research we have been informed itcertainlydates from the mid 19th century.
Dates about c1860s.
Of a european origin.
An intricate carving of the sheep\'s head with its wonderful detailing.
Walnut carving.
Under the hinged lid: the recess for an inkwell (no liner)
Mounted onto the olive wood base with the pen tray to the front.
It has an overall height of about 3.75inches.
Max overall size of about 10.75 7.5inches.
Overall size of the sheep\'s head of about 6.25 x 5.5inches.
Max dia of the inkwell internally including the recessed edge of about 2.25inches.
Max depth of the recess centrally of about 1.5inches.
Condition: Considering the age, the overall conditionis very good andisnot subject to:
any major blemishes except:
as of previous no liner.
The four screws underneath have been replaced.
The olive wood base has been repaired diagonally with the loss of a bun foot with areas of historic woodworm underneath.
(quite easy to replace the entire base by remounting the sheep\'s head on another, if one so desired).
An early glue repair to an ear.

Besides being a very collectable, mid 19th century wooden walnut carved sheeps head inkwell mounted onto the wooden olive wood pen tray with its wonderful portrayal, c1860s,would also look fabulous displayed.
