This is a superb pair of Staffordshire seated russet red & white spaniel dogs with the embossed number of 3 underneath each of which:
During our research we have been informed they certainlydate from the mid 19th century.
Date about c1850s.
Staffordshire, Englandorigin.
Feature in the A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs by Clive Mason Pope.
Date confirmed as mid 19th century: c1850s.
Underneath each: the embossed numbers of 3.
A left and a right.
A wonderful portrayal of the seated pair of spaniel dogs with:
each having the russet red & white decoration and colouring with the wonderful facial detailing.
Pottery.
Gilt collars & locks with the hand painted black chains.
Each has an overall height of about 8.5inches.
Max basesizes ofabout 5.5 x 3.5inches.
Condition: Considering the age: the overall condition to both is:
one is subject to cracks to the rear which continues to the front of the dog by the collar of which: with todays modern & advanced restoration techniques, can certainly be improved.
Same has a hairline to the front side.
Other has a hairline to the rear side with: a chip under the base edge.
Due to age: areas of fine crazing.
All as perpictures.
Besides being a very collectable, mid 19th century pair of Staffordshire seated russet red & white spaniel dogs, with the embossed numbers of 3 underneath each, c1850s, both would also look fabulous displayed.
