A superb quality antique English, solid sterling silver (stamped) propelling pencil, made by famed quality maker Sampson Mordan & Co. With unusual spiral design and fluted top, the internal mechanism isworked by rotating the spiral barrel in relation to the tip or the top.Inside is its lead holder which expresses the lead from tip when twisted.It dates fromaround 1880, is stamped \'S Mordan & Co\' and \'Sterling\'and is inexcellent, lightly worn, fully workingcondition. It weighs12.2grams and measures3 ¾ inches long. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coinfor scale, which measures19mm/ ¾ of an inchdiameter.
