Hi, thank you for having a look at my items. This week we have listed over 100 Sterling Silver, Continental Solid Silver and Silver Plate sales. You just never see this many great and rarely seen fresh estate pieces like this come up for sale all at once. Up for sale with is a really incredible Victorian 24pc English Sterling Silver Cased Dessert or Luncheon Flatware Service. The Service is one of the most beautiful I have sold in a very long time with gorgeous Repousse Fancy Sterling Silver Handles to every piece. The Service is much nicer in real life and I am sure the new owner will be impressed. The Knife Blades and Fork Tines are early Silver Plate on Steel and are fully marked AH * JH as seen in the photos. The Sterling Handles are also fully Hallmarked for Sheffield England, Sterling Silver and the Maker's mark A.H for either Aaron Hadfield or Ashforth & Harthorn. There is also the Bust of Queen Victoria visible. The marks are very tiny, some are worn, some are obscured by the pattern and I could not find a Date Mark, but both Maker's were only working until 1865, so the Service must predate that. Overall the Service is in very fine condition with the Sterling Handles showing no dents or cracks, the Silver Plated Steel parts do show some signs of wear consistent with age but no loose handles and the set is very practical for modern use with the Knives measuring 8-1/2" long and the Forks measuring 7" long. The Service also comes in it's beautiful, original fitted Mahogany Canteen, which is in very fine condition as well, just some signs of age shrinkage as seen in the photos. The Lock is intact though I have no Key to test it. I have not had a service this pretty in a long time and I doubt you will find another up for sale anytime soon selling with and such a low opening offer as all our sales have run for over 10 years here on !
