2 1/4 X 2 1/4\" is this \"HEARTBREAKER\",........Embossed on the base edge: \"SAFETY NIGHT LIGHT CO.\" and in the center: \"BKLYN / N.Y.\". On both sides of the lamp: \"STARS & STRIPES\" with 2 small stars on the border and a large one in the center. On the other two sides: The American Standard Shield with 3 stars. The crack runs through the base and up the side of the standard that has the piece missing and up to about the center of the \"STARS & STRIPES\" where is stops. The other sides (STARS & STRIPES and AMERICAN STANDARD SHIELD) are damage free. There is also one surface bruise just below the American Standard shield that has the piece missing at top. It was dug in an early rock-lined privy in New Jersey. It was sifted, but no piece found. This is such an unusual and beautiful piece of glass that I thought someone out there may really like to have it for their collection despite the missing piece and the crack. Nothing is glued, it\'s in one piece. It must have been a container for a candle or perhaps a match holder giveaway by a company called \"SAFETY NIGHT LIGHT COMPANY in BROOKLYN, N.Y.\"......just guessing here. ADDENDUM: Just solved the mystery (to me anyway)......found an advertisement from the turn of the century for its use......WOW! see last photo.
