Very Scarce ORIGINAL Antique Victorian Period Silk Dress Top w/Beautiful Velvet Decoration, c. 1870
DESCRIPTION:Extremely nice early dress top. Scans show it all. Top part of antique Victorian female dress that would be worn with a variety of skirts as a 2 Piece outfit. Made of smooth black period material that appears to be silk, with very soft wide black velvet stripes at the wrists and shoulders. Has a single row of white BONE buttons up the front (8 buttons, 2 replaced and 1 missing). High neck, and raised ruffles up the sleeves and around the shoulders. Sleeves have a curve to them, typical of the period. Busk-like stiffeners sewn into the dress around the front to give it shape and style. Inside is lined with brown polished cotton material. Slight staining in armpit showing that this was worn, in the days before deodorant and air conditioning!!
Incredible amount and quality and decoration. Appears to be mostly hand made and hand stitched, if not all. Top measures approxomately 16\" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, about 17\" from shoulder seam to wrist, and about 13\" from bottom to neck top. Could have been owned by a girl or young woman considering the dimensions.
Cloth is in very good, stable condition overall.
Fresh from an old estate in central Massachusetts. If you like or collect antique dresses or clothing or Victorian items, I do not think you will be disappointed!!
All is in very good condition overall, with only a couple of very small wear spots.
