Scottish Antique Sterling Napkin Ring, Glasgow, 1884-Rare
Description

RARE ANTIQUE STERLING GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, NAPKIN RING 1884This stunning sterling napkin ring was made in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1884. It is rare to see a napkin ring from Glasgow. The silversmith\'s symbol for the city of Glasgow is based on the legend of St. Mungo. Included in the symbol are an oak tree, a bird, a fish with ring, and a bell. There is a full set of hallmarks which gives us the city, year, and the maker, W. Alexander and Son. This Scottish napkin ring itself is exceptionally fine-- featuring applied flowers and leaves on a gilt background. The flowers are quite 3-dimensional and extend well above the surface. The diameter opening is 1.75 inches and the width is 1 inch. The work by this silversmith is remarkably fine. The ring is in outstanding condition and weighs 1.2 ounces on an accurate postal scale- at least 20% more than the average napkin ring.
