FINEST SCOTTISH STERLING SILVER GEORGE IV TEA SET; RAISED SHELL AND FLORAL; JOHN McKAY, 1822; WEIGHS 55 OUNCES; EXCELLENT CONDITION

We are pleased to offer this extremely fine George IV Scottish sterling silver raised shell and floral tea set.

From the well listed Edinburgh work shop of John McKay.

Classic tapering urn form. Elegant finger petal fluting rising from base.

Richly chased acanthus and vine decoration to overhang rim.

The teapot retains the original elaborately fashioned gadroon edge swirling vine centre bud finial. Boldly cast twin ruffled acanthus cap slender paneled C-scroll handle. Twin florette applique to side of upper terminal. A French touch.

The cream jug and sugar bowl with equally striking acanthus, scroll and cascading floral cap double scroll handles. Also retain their original gold wash interiors, in fine state.

Never monogrammed.

This fine 1822 Scottish shell and floral cream jug is 6 inches and 10 standard ounces.

The sugar bowl is 8 1/2 inches & 17 1/2 standard ounces.

Teapot 11 1/2 inches handle to spout and 27 1/2 standard ounces.

The entire service weighs 55 (standard) ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.

In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The raised shell and floral and acanthus handle retain their original crisp, vibrant detail. Handle secure and original heat stops. Cover closes flush. Handle secure and with original heat stops. Teapot cover two tiny dint to centre fluting.
