This is a Scabbard Shoulder Belt, Model 1808 which is the \"first regulation U.S. accouterment of the type\". Reference American Socket Bayonets and Scabbards by Robert M. Reilly. Picture and description on page 142. Partial excerpts \" The wide double frog apparently patterned after earlier British Types. The 1808 pattern scabbard and belt remained in service officially for about twenty years when it was superceded by the pattern of 1828. Undoubtedly, though, many continued in use, particularly by militia units, long after that time. Being quite fragile , and without reinforcement of any kind, few have survived\".
