This highly collectible shaker is in very good condition for an 80 year old. It shows normal and expected wear with minor dings, and scratches. THIS LUCIOUS SHAKER DISPLAYS VERY WELL. Please note that the flash photography exaggerates the blue color of the stopper. Under normal lighting, the stopper looks dark blue as seen in the non-flash photos.

The Blue Moon Cocktail Shaker was designed by Howard F. Reichenbach for the Chase Brass and Copper Company in the 1930s. During WWII the Chase company stopped making household goods, never to return to its wonderful line of art deco items. It still manufactures industrial products.

The Chase Brass and Copper Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, was founded in 1876. Throughout most of its early existence Chase was a major producer of industrial brass and copper products. But during the 1930\'s, the company developed and marketed a line of house-wares and gift products sold through major retail department stores across the country. Although most items in the product line were available in a variety of finishes, the chrome plated versions predominated. Many Chase products boasted the clean, modern style so prevalent during that era ... a style we have come to call moderne or art deco. Chase specialty products were sold until the start of the second world war, when they converted to wartime production. Following the war, the company chose not to re-enter the consumer products market. Whereas that ended the era, that did not end the interest in this product line. Today, all Chase products are eminently collectible and command a great deal of interest.

Blue Moon Shaker

Designer Howard F. Reichenbach

The epitome of Art Deco style and design can be seen in this simple but highly stylized design by Howard Reichenbach. Who would have thought that a simple manufacturer of metal components for commercial and industrial use, would over the course of a few years produce some of the most unique and exquisite designs of the 20th century. Like many companies of the era, Chase found itself in need of addition income during the Great Depression. The household products market niche turned into a showcase for some of the titans of industrial design: Howard F. Reichenbach, Lurelle Guild, Kent Rockwell, Walter Von Nessen, and Russel Wright. Alas, this era of great design and beauty was only to last from the 1930s through the end of World War II.
