Simpich Character Doll \"Brita\" Rare Low Serial #78/800 Gorgeous Retired PRISTINE:

OK, here is a fantastic RAREand LONG RETIRED serial numbered piece from the Famous Simpich Character Doll Family! This a very rare and seldom seen piece on . It is serial number #78 out of a MAXIMUM number to be issued of 800 and was produced in 1997. The Simpich Family retired in 2007, so I seriously doubt that the full 800 were ever produced, and anytime you get a nice low numbered piece like this, you have to think \"how many of these were really made?\" Well, at least 78, but unless you see a higher number.....who really knows?? On top of that, Simpich was famous for trying to make many dolls using different materials so each one had it\'s own personality and look to it.

I\'m guessing that Brita may well have been a tribute named after one of the Simpich family members, which was very common for them to recognize and honor a cherished family member. The doll is almost 9\" tall including the quality wooden base. The dress material is a burgandy color with gold stripes, although in some of the pictures, the dress looks brownish.

The quality of these handmade Simpich Dolls is phenomenal, and I have included a dozen pictures to highlight the detailed craftsmanship. Every detail of the doll is handcrafted, and painted, and the materials they used were first rate. Note the trim on the dress, the layers of material used, everything is fantastic.

The dolls have spawned other concepts since their creation, notably themarionettetheaterof their son, puppeteerDavid Simpich.

The extraordinary Simpich Character Doll enterprise operated from this Old Colorado City building for nearly thirty years. Beautiful handmade figures were created here and shipped to points across the globe; and visitors were welcomed to tour the workshop areas where each character was painstakingly crafted. Because of skyrocketing production costs, in early 2007—after 54 years of production—doll artists Jan and Bob Simpich decided to close their business, thus preserving the distinct legacy ofeverySimpich Doll being handmade in Colorado.

THE SIMPICH DOLL MUSEUMnow carries Bob and Jan\'s amazing endeavor to a new dimension as the intricate history and remarkable artistry of their joint effort is explored and celebrated. Over fifty diorama exhibits carry visitors from the early 1950\'s where the dolls were made in a tiny cottage in Manitou Springs through the mid 2000\'s where the Simpich Doll operation peaked in artistry and complexity. Many exceptionally rare and one-of-a-kind figures are displayed, as well as creation processes, unusual memorabilia and family heirlooms. Many displays are scheduled to rotate to accommodate appropriate space for the nearly 500 distinct characters in the Simpich family\'s collection, which remains the largest and most comprehensive in existence.

Also on display is A GALLERY ON STRINGS, displaying a large variety of performing marionettes from the Simpich repertoire of string-puppet productions.
