This Thread Stand is designed for use on Singer Featherweight Sewing Machines, established to be the Ultimate in Portable Sewing Machines (Sewing Machine not Included).

Use of the MLH Supply Featherweight Portable Thread Stand produces Proper Thread Flow for Cross-Wound Threads, Eliminating Thread Twisting and Needle Breakage.

Product Description

The Attractive and Sleek MLH Supply Featherweight Portable Thread Stand, is the Ultimate, Lightweight and Portable Solution for using Cross-Wound Threads (Mini Cones) on the Popular Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine. The Stand is designed to fit all Models of the Singer Featherweight Machine (Singer Model 221’s and 222k) except for some AF series.

The Stand is Simple to Use. It installs by Slipping the Stand into the Oil Hole located on the Left Side of the Machine Harp. The Thread Stand’s removal is just as easy, and when removed it fits conveniently in the Featherweight Sewing Machine Case for Storage and Transportation.

Designed with Sewing and Care of the Machine in mind, there is a Secondary Thread Guide on the Thread Stand Base to ensure proper alignment with the Machine’s normal Thread Flow. There is also a Nylon Washer on the Stands Base to prevent damage to the machine’s painted surfaces.

Manufactured in the USA of Stainless Steel and Aluminum materials, The MLH Supply Featherweight Portable Thread Stand, like the Featherweight Machine, is designed to last a Lifetime.

Why a Thread Stand for Cross-Wound Thread

Thread twisting and needle breakage can occur if Cross-Wound, or Mini-Cone, threads are unwound directly from the side of the spool. Only Traditional Stack Wound Threads are intended to be unwound from the Side of the Spool.

The correct way for Thread to Flow and produce a good stitch from a Cross-Wound Thread Spool is for the thread to flow off the Top of the Spool -- and then through the MLH Supply Thread Stand. Cross-Wound Threads are easily recognized by the Crisscross or Diamond Pattern the Thread makes, when wound on the Spool in a Diagonal Pattern. It is most commonly seen in such brands as Gutermann, Sulky and Mettler to name a few.

There is a Top and a Bottom to a Spool of Cross-Wound Thread. When using the Thread Stand, the Mini-Cone should be placed on the Spool Pin with the Top-of-the-Thread facing up. To Determine the Top-of-the-Thread of a Mini-Cone, pull 3 feet of Thread off in the direction toward one end of the Cone. Bring the Tip of the Thread back to touch the Cone. Examine the Hanging Loop for Twisting of the Thread. Repeat the Procedure, pulling Thread toward the other end of the Cone. The End of the Cone from which the Thread does not Twist, is the Top-of-the-Thread (see Pictures below). Once identified, mark the Top-of the-Thread permanently on the spool for future convenience.
