Up for sale is a very nice Smith Premier 1 Typewriter. It appears to have had a repaint somewhere in the past. The nickel plating is in good shape for its age. Could always do with a polishing job. It operates well for a machine for its age. The right hand space bar is a bit wobbly as it is held on with one bracket only. The other bracket was broken sometime in the past. I have not attempted to repair it. It operates the space mechanism, but I think the new buyer should use the space bar on the left. It\'s very solid.
The bell is missing, was this way when I bought it years ago and didn\'t realize it until last week when I took it off the shelf, attentive type aren\'t I?
The keys all work most of the time, it hangs up once in a while, but all things considered, it\'s a good machine. The ribbon spools rotate and advance as designed. The paper has to be loaded via the ratcheted handle as the platen knob is fixed and does not rotate. My other SP 1 does the same thing and looking on the internet, the other one I\'ve seen does the same. Poor design.
The serial number is: 19609. Couldn\'t find a year on the SP Database as to when this was made.
The nickel plating is in good shape and this is a very attractive machine and hard to find in this shape these days.
This is returnable if not as described. Must be boxed in new boxes and received by me in same condition. I double box, secure the carriage, lift the carriage rail from the track for protection. Must be returned within 5 business days. I\'ve never had one returned as of yet.
