Snow Angel, leading Santa Claus, on Christmas. Miniature Bisque. German. 1900s

I have not listed any of these for a great deal of time, but we just have to downsize, so I am hoping that these miniature snow baby items will get a new care-taker. They have been in our collection for decades, having started collecting them before they were popular. We always used these in snow village and putz scenes, mostly in our glass cabinet between the dining room and the den.

Made of bisque and of great detail, if you look closely.

Little snow angel on the left, with gold wings, guiding Santa Claus.

She is carrying a basket of apples, such a wonderful fruit at Christmas.

He is leaning on a staff, as his bundle of presents on his back has to be happy.

Expression on his face is just precious.

2.00\" and in very good condition.

What is the shortened history of these little miniature bisque figures? They belong to a collecting category referred to as \"Snow Babies.\"

A Snow Baby (or Snowbaby) is a small figurine, usually of a child, that depicts some aspect of the Christmas holidays or of winter sports. The traditional snow baby is made of unglazed porcelain (bisque) and shows a child dressed in a snowsuit; the suit itself is covered in small pieces of crushed bisque, giving the appearance of fallen snowflakes. Figurines of other characters were also made, including Santa Claus, elves and animals such as penguins and polar bears. Admiral Perry and his wife were stationed in the North Pole, and they had a white little girl. The Eskimos had never seen a white baby, so they nicknamed her \"Snow Baby.\"

The oldest Snow Babies were manufactured in Germany in the 1890s, and were typically either all white with a painted face, or painted in pastel colors. These figures being listed this evening are from the very early 1900s, previous to World War I, and all are marked \"Germany.\"
