Relic card reads \"Ex Induments\" which is Latin for \"from the clothing\". This phrase was originally designated for 2nd Class Relics ONLY as they were from the clothing of the Saints or Blessed individuals; however, contemporary relic manufacturers have been using the phrase as a way to identify 3rd Class Relics as well. Making it difficult to identify the correct class of Relics.3rd Class Relics are pieces of cloth, canvas, or any item that has touched the to a First or Second Class Relic of the Saint the intent that it be a Third Class Relic. In the case of a 3rd Class Relic, the Catholic Church states may be given to individuals and may be sold; unlike the 1st Class Relic which the Catholic Church does not allow the sale of. In the case of the 4th Class Relic, they are are virtually the same as Third Class Relics.The Third Class Relics on the Medals:
These are typically what you purchase on a Pilgrimage to a Shrine of a Saint. When you look at the back of a medal and see a small piece of cloth set in red that small piece of cloth is the relic. The outer edge will either have raised lettering or engraving that reads “EX INDUMENTIS” (Latin for \"touched cloth\".) You will notice that all of these medals are made in Italy as they are sanctioned by the Vatican.When properly reverenced, Relics are considered to be powerful Sacramentals, in order for this to occur, the Church recommends ALL Relics to be blessed by a Deacon or Priest of the Roman Catholic Church. Relics are NOT to be taken lightly! These are considered precious gifts from our Holy Saints and to be treated with reverence and respect.
