What a delightful demure brooch/pin (2\" x 1-1/4\") by the Mexican artist Pedro Castillo going back to the 1930\'s. The body of the bird is abalone while the remaining features are carved. It weighs 4.4 grams and the pin securely works. It is also stamped 925 Mexico with the artist\'s initials. This piece would be dated before 1948, at that time his mark changed to the conjoined PC. A great addition for a collector. The Taxco silver maestro Pedro Castillo worked first for William Spratling, then for Hector Aguilar, consequently then started his own successful workshop in 1940.
