This kit is made of a sealed black vulcanized rubber case, with\"If Found Return
To/ ComNavAirLant (CNAL 34) / Norfolk, Virginia\"molded in raised letters on
each side, and the number\"2273\"hand-engravedintoone side.The sealed
kit measures: 3-3/4\" x4-7/16\" x3/4\".

These escape and evasion kits weretypically issued to military pilots to be used
for barter ifthey were shot downbehind enemy lines.Thisbarter kitcontains
approximately .90 troy ouncesoffine gold(.75 troy ouncesofcoins,.15 troy
ouncesofrings). As this is written, if you were to buy the coins and rings today,
they would cost you in excess of $1500.00. And that does not count the value
of thisUS Navy Barter Kit as a verydifficult to get militaryitem.

The Department of Defense Logistics Agencystatesthat these kits consist of:
One 20 Franc gold coin, one 10 Franc gold coin,one 1British PoundSovereign
goldcoin (British orSouth African minted), two ½Britishpound Sovereign gold
coins(British or South African minted),and three gold rings,either plain or
embossed.

This example is in fine,original, still-sealedcondition.It appears that the Navy
renumberedthis kit, from its first embossed number to the present hand-engraved
one. That is not unusual with these Navy Barter Kits.

The Navy describes that opened kit as:

\"US Navy Escape And Evasion Barter Kit, Atlantic, Serial # 1402.

The case of the kit is made from black rubber which was sealed.
The kit contains three gold rings and five gold coins. The reverse
and obverse of the kit\'s case has raised lettering: \'If found return
to COMNAVAIRLANT CNAL 34 Norfolk Virginia\'. The kits were
used by service personnel when they were in enemy territory to
aid their escape.

what is inside the kit. Again, the US Navy Barter Kit in this sale is still
sealed up, unopened and all original.
