Huge Victorian Specimen BroochPutting aside the fact that this is an Antique Victorian piece, this is the largest and one of the most beautiful stones I have ever seen in a piece of Jewellery.The colour / hue / saturation is spectacular - A deep, rich and fiery amber with a high gloss finish. The lapidary who cut this stone was highly skilled, it has been beautifully faceted underneath and around the edges. The Citrine stone alone is huge at 101 Carats in size, measuring 4cm (1 1/2\" ) in length x 2.8cm (just over 1\") in width and 1.7cm (3/4\") deep. I love the strong design of this piece, very geometric, almost mid 20th century if it weren\'t for the split pearls and bloomed gold finish. The frame is 18ct gold and it has a long strong pin that extends beyond the brooch itself allowing for the thicker Victorian fabrics of the 1860\'s -70\'s to pass though it whilst still reaching the C catch.It is beautifully made and would have been a very expensive piece. This type of brooch is often referred to as a \"Specimen Brooch\" such is the beauty of the stone. At the rear of the brooch is a strong loop or bolt ring that would have had a safety chain or ribbon attached.
In fantastic condition. This is a fabulous piece of jewellery and would today, still draw comments. It would look fabulous pinned to a heavy wool shawl at the shoulder and is strong enough to go through layers of wool.It could also easily be converted to a show stopping pendant.Size: 5cm (2\") length x 3.8cm (1 1/2\") wide
