Lladro \'Gardener Girl\' #01012017 in Mint ConditionLladro\'s \'Gardener Girl\' is very close to life-size. A pretty young girl with a turned-up nose and long dark hair is holding a long oval basket in front of her.
This unusual statue looks wonderful on display, and it can also be put to practical use as a stunning table centerpiece. The basket can be filled with fruit, dried flowers, or whatever you choose.The statue is made in two separate pieces; the basket section is separate from the stand-alone bust. The bust stands 16 1/2 inches tall, and 12 inches wide at the base. The basket stands just under 4 inches high, 13 inches long, and 5 3/4 inches wide (max). Overall depth of the figurine (front to back, basket and bust) is 11 inches. The statue (both pieces) weighs just under 15 lbs. It is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or visible defects.\'Gardener Girl\' has a gres finish (similar to a satin finish) with an amazing depth of color rarely found in the traditionally glazed or matte pieces. The hand-painted hair shows streaks of light and dark, and her skin tone looks life-like.This stunning Lladro sculpture has more than tripled in value since its retirement in 1981 (see below). According to Peggy Whiteneck, author of \'Collecting Lladro\' (2003), gres achieved popularity in Europe far sooner than in the U.S. Consequently early gres pieces were supplied to the U.S. in much lesser quantities than their traditionally finished counterparts.
