A Superb Antique French Gilt & Gesso Oval Pine Picture Frame ~~ with beautiful ornate foliate Rose gesso detailing to the border. Measuring approximately 46cm by 36cm & with a rebate (for your image) of 39.5cm by 29.5cm ~ or in inches 15 & 1/2\" by 11 & 1/2\".Sight size is 375mm by 275mm. This is a beautiful antique French portrait frame ~ dating at a guess to the 1930\'s but may well be much older ~ it\'s a solid pine gilt frame, with a sumptuous raised bevelled border & with stunning ornate \'rose\' gilt raised gesso areas ~ very sculptural & tactile it is a typically Gallic frame with a real sense of boho chic ~ French frames are very in at the moment, anything French is, you see much French decorative arts at all of the large UK antique fairs ~ this frame is a beauty, entirely constructed by hand it has been expertly mitred it has a real sense of faded glory & is quite decadent, there is some nice old pencil handwriting of the maker verso ~ It has a wonderful symmetry about it ~ shaped into this wonderful oval figure which really suits the beautifully ornate gesso flowers in the border ~ it\'s a perfect picture frame in which to house a head & shoulders portrait, perhaps an image of a loved one or even a still life painting ~ This is a frame that will really suit a special image ~ this is a frame that will certainly grace any wall ...

Condition: In excellent condition ~ one small area of gesso has been repaired (put back on) & there is a slight crack in the gesso at the base (or conversely, the top) which is very hard to spot & I mention just to be 100% honest in the listing, once hung it will not be noticeable (see photo 11) barring this ~ age commensurate wear ~ no major damages ... N.B. All of my frames have some form of age commensurate wear - as this is NOT a modern repro there will be slight imperfections but this is the essence of owning an antique picture frame. Please do refer to the detailed photographs, they are an accurate reflection of the very good antique condition.Refurbished FramesEach frame has been carefully stripped down of its backing boards & tidied professionally ~ the back of the frame (verso) is removed from any loose backing & paper, dust, nails, splinters, glass etc ~ any other abrasions have been meticulously peeled away so that the frame can be pretty much hung immediately. After having been stripped down thoroughly, the border, where necessary, is then treated with a high-quality clear wax and buffed vigorously ~ this gives the wood a bright fresh lustre and sheen, making it, in essence, a completely restored frame. This fully refurbished frame is ready to go ~ this frame is all set to be hung ... For your information …So, the idea is to have around 100 to 150 frames on at any one time in order to offer plenty of choice. Not just of antique frames but frames of quality, quirky usable frames of all shapes & sizes & character. Around 95% of frames that we see or are brought to us are rejected on grounds of quality & condition ~ we only pick frames that are of the best quality & are in very good condition ~ unless of course, it is a charming old gesso frame that has fantastic qualities despite having areas of missing gesso ~ frames such as this can still be used in a variety of stylish ways. Our frames come not just from the UK but from all over Europe as we visit most major fairs in French & Belgium. Many of our frames, especially Edwardian Oak ones are cleaned & therefore reconditioned & brought up to a very high calibre. The majority of our frames come without glass as the main shipping companies will not cover for glass ~ We do however keep a stock of antique glass so, if you can come & collect your frame in person at our Lytham address we can probably provide glass. One of the reasons also that we don’t send out the glass is that new glass can be sourced easily & cheaply from a local glass/window dealer or glazier ~ it can cost just pennies.
