We are offering for sale a fantastic Arts & Crafts silver punch bowl.
This is a truly magnificent piece of silver with fabulous chased and applied decoration, a monteith style castellated rim,plustwo lion\'s mask ring handles. It is a good large size and could be used for serving punch or as a winecooler bottle stand - see photo withstandard size champagne bottle.
This large bowl was made the Stratford Applied Arts Studio (items of silver made by this group are veryrarely seen) and commissioned by the Royal Exchange Assurance Company to celebrate their bicentenary on 22nd June 1920 (see engraving around the foot). The origin of the Royal Exchange Assurance Company was to insure ships and merchandise at sea - hence the sailing ship motifs. It was founded in 1720 as a result of the Bubble Act and was merged with the Guardian Assurance Company in 1968.

MARKS: Full set of English hallmarks (guaranteeing Sterling 925 standard silver) for Birmingham 1920, made by Stratford Applied Arts Studio.
