Superb vintage Chinese douchai (鬦彩）egg shell porcelain vase. Circa 1960s.
The delicate vase has a fantastic scene of a mansion by the river. There is a large tree by the house and majestic mountains in the background. A man rowing a boat near by.
On the back of the vase is a boat with a man and a woman in it. A boat man on the back steering the boat.
The neck and the base are covered with underglaze blue traditional design.
Douchai, or fighting colours, refers to a special technique of decorating porcelain. The blue coloured design is painted under the glaze then fired in the kiln. Another layer of painting is painted on the glazed item and fired again.
Egg shell porcelain refers to the texture and thickness of the porcelain. It isso thin that it resembles eggshells. The egg shell porcelain whilst thin is very hard. One of my photos shows the transparent quality of the vase.
This is one of the most beautiful egg shell vases I have seen. The painting has a lot of detail and beautifully painted.
There is a maker\'s mark on the base.
The vase is in perfect condition. No chip, no crack.

\'Most of my collection is one of a kind. I bought the items because I liked it for myself. They were never intended to be resold. Each item has a story and when possible I hand carried in my luggage from all over the world to bring back to Australia. Some of the items have travelled a long way away and some of the items has been with me for 65 years. I am now retired and need to downsize.
