This is a superb antique Georgian period circa 1820 gilt metal Scottish amethyst cabochon brooch.The cabochons are classic Scottish stones with lovely pale amethyst colour and fabulous natural inclusions through the stones highlighting the very natural appeal of these wonderful stones!
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stones are stunning natural pale amethysts from the Sutherland hills that have been superbly cut and polished in round cabochons to highlight their colour and inclusions. All the stones have been fully tested by a local jeweller to confirm they are genuine amethysts.
The brooch has a plain gilt metal frame in lovely condition. The width is 4.0 cm ( One and three fifth inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
