This is a beautiful superb large antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish banded agate brooch.
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The stunning cabochon stone is a wonderful brown and white banded agate from Scurdie Ness on the east coast.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is sterling silver.The width is large at 7.3 cm ( Just under three inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
