We are listing what appears to be a beautifully fluted and hand painted late 1700s or early 1800s Georgian porcelain cup and saucer by the Newhall Pottery in Staffordshire (1781-1835). A fellow er recently told me that he believes this is actually an equally rare Georgian pearlware copy of a Newhall piece. The only mark on the matching pieces is a tiny hand painted number 14 on the bottom of the plate, which is not unusual for Newhall pieces. The style of their hand painted flowers is such a hallmark of their work that it is called Newhall Style no matter whose work it is on. You can see similar examples in different patterns in Chapter XXIII of Geoffrey Godden\'s EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY ENGLISH PORCELAIN (which is solely devoted to the Newhall Pottery). The cup and saucer are delicately fluted, the cup has a very elegantly scrolled handle, and both pieces are hand painted in matching colorful floral designs (and stylistic trim bands around the inside of their rims). The cup is 2.75 inches tall and over 3.5 inches at its widest point, the saucer is 1.25 inches tall and 5 inches wide, both pieces are wonderfully fluted and hand painted, and they are in very good condition. There are a few tiny rough spots on both rims (more felt than seen), and two short, thin hairlines which are barely visible on the edge of the saucer rim (see the last two pictures). Please view the closeup pictures and judge for yourself. A very elegant and beautiful 200+ year old porcelain or pearlware cup and saucer.
