He is made out of wood and felt. I sign each tomte with my initials and the year. The hat has a little bell at the end. The star and edge of the hat are hand embroidered. The Tomte is hand made with love and care by me in my studio : )A Tomte is a mythical creature in Scandinavian folklore. He is often imagined as small (size varies from a few inches to about half the height of an adult man), often with a full beard, wearing gray and red woolens with a red cap. My name is Kristina and I\'m originally from Scandinavia (I was born in Finland and I grew up in Sweden).
When I was little I used to spend all my summers at my Grandmother\'s house in a little town called Uusikaupunki in Finland. My Grandmother, along with my Mom, taught me how to knit, crochet, sew, weave and other crafts. All my Grandmother\'s quilts, linen sheets, crocheted pillowcase laces, rugs, doilies and many more things were hand made by her. Those were some of the best summers of my life : )My background is in graphic design, which I think can be applied to a lot of the projects that I work on.
