$4000.00

Das Antiphonar von St Peter, Vollstandige Faksimile-Ausgabe im originalformat des Codex Vindobonensis Series Nova 2700 der Osterreichischen Nationalbibliothek. [FACSIMILE] Graz: Akademische Druck- u. Verlagsanstalt (ADEVA), 1969-1974. One of the grandest manuscripts of the 12th century, the Antiphonary of St. Peter was used for solemn celebrations at the Benedictine Abbey of Salzburg for nearly 800 years. This exquisite facsimile reproduction accurately reproduces the vibrant colors, script, neumes, and feel of the original manuscript, using parchment-like leaves for the printing and bound in blind-tooled pigskin. The manuscript depicts colorful miniatures on golden backgrounds as well as ornamental pages with luxurious golden initials on purple backgrounds. It also includes twelve richly embellished calendar pages, two Easter tables, and pen drawings on green and blue backgrounds as well as more than 400 decorated initials mostly containing motifs of flora and fauna. The Antiphonary was the work of several hands and is written in a very beautiful and even Romanesque book script. A major portion of the text is accompanied by Neumes of the Saint Gall type annotated above the lines. Two volumes. Facsimile volume, 849pp. (43.5 x 31.5cm) + commentary volume. Binding a bit rubbed. Ownership stamps to final verso and paste-down. Near Fine condition.
