This is the rarest of all Beatles misprints, due to the typographical omission of the sixth track of Side 2, \'A Day In The Life\', predominantly a John Lennon composition.

It is thought that the British Broadcasting Corporation had attempted to interfere with EMI\'s type-setting operations; in an effort to subdue the influence of hallucinogenics on Britains youth, they asked for that track be removed from the track listing. Credibility to this notion being that the BBC did infact refuse to air the song at the time.

The truth is more straightforward, in that an EMI typesetter had accidentally forgot to add that track, and as such this label can only be found associated with a very small batch runof very similiar vinyl stampers on the production line, as somebody quickly noticed and it was corrected!

This is therefore a very sought after misprint, as it was a very short livedit hardly ever comes up for sale. It is generally considered to be part of the second pressing run of Sgt. Pepper\'s Lonely Hearts Club Band as this issue is never normally found with the psychedelic Fool\'s inner sleeve, ratherthe subsequent plain white window-less EMIinner (which is also included here).

The Sleeve: 1st & original Flipback sleeve in Very Good Condition.

Has maintained an overallvery good shape, well defined edges with no fraying to the laminationand spine corners are not worn, the bottom right corner on first opening side has a small dentasboth sides on the top corner. No creasing or ring wear on the front panel, inside, or rear panel, which is very rare to find. All flipbacks fully intact, all lamination present with no denting/ lifting andthere is no laminate frayingdown the centre line inside the gatefold, just a bubbling effect near the top.

No splits or rips, spine and inner partition fully intact holding all insertsin place, and title text clear and bold on the outside. The iconic front photo is unblemished, andstill retains its colour with no noticeable fading even near the spine edges -which often does have. Inside the photo spread of the Fab Four is excellent and very clean all over, and the backpanel is bright red with bold lyrics, very light age storage wear along on the opening slots. Fold-over\'s inside are clean with no edge fraying - very hard to find like this.

No sticker or sticker residue, and no writing or writing imprints.

Printed & made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd

Inner Sleeve : This issue has the original Fools Psychedelic inner sleeve found inside which is not normally with the2nd pressing, in addition to themore usualplain EMI \'Patents Applied For\' inner sleeve which had came into use by early 1968. Both in a Very Good condition and fullyfunctional with no edge splits and intact at all fold seams and all edges. Some smalldiscoloration marks only.

This hasthe original Dark Green Cut-Out card used in the 60\'s: Excellent Condition. No creases, no ring wear, no marks.

The Vinyl: This record has received pressure to it down through the decades due to storage ... this has given it aslight \'careening/ wobble\' effect as it turns, that is, the stylus arm can be seen to elevate up/down as the record turns for at least a third of the way in. However, a thorough play testing all the way through reveals no distortion to the sound - it plays like any other original mono Sgt Pepper.

Aside from this, the surfaces grade as Very Good Plus condition on both sides. The vinyl retains a deep bright black glossy finish all over, with just a couple of noticeable but non-feelable stylus hairlines marks on either side, which don\'t detract from the overall appearance and appear fine and non obtrusivein normal light. The majority of the surfaceis completely unblemished both sides even under bright light i.e. no scuffs, dinks, marks ordash lines under the surfaces i.e. no groovewear.

Very heavy robust sixties vinyl weighing at 170 grams.

Labels are Very Good Plus/ Excellent. Text is clear and bright, the perimeter area around the spindle location point has verylight spindle wear indeed for one of these misprints, and spindle line traces can hardly be seen at all.

Has the KT tax code embossed on Side 1.

SOLD IN U.K. text across label and

The Gramophone Co. Ltd text around rim.

Mother & Stampers (The Side 1 couplinghas lowstamps for a no \'Day In The Life\' misprint LP)

Side 1 - 4 RTG

Side 2 - 19 MMT

The Audio: The audio grades as Very Good Plus, almost Excellent, but not quite. It has no major detractionssuch as pops, skips, sticks, and no interference such as hiss or crackle, and the interludes are generally quiet without static. There is no surface noise or backgroundnoise. There are cyclic ticks through the intro of Track 1 Side 1 (Sgt.Pepper\'s Lonely Hearts Club Band)which eventually fade further in, and a quick jump on the intro of Track 2 Side 1 (With A Little help From My Friends). The surfaces project a full bodied original edgy mono bass reproduction as The Beatles intended, and the vocals are crisp and clear.

The robustness of these early pressings ensures that the sound quality doesn\'t deteriorate noticeably as long as the record has not been mistreated. This isn\'t quite an audiophile copy, but has surprisingly trueto formsound for such a rare misprint Sgt Pepper -which are normally found with lots of scratches and spindle wear. It\'s value can only increase over time and would certainly look great framed or tolisten to,as the vinyl reflects a great shine with noirritating marks.

The mono version of Sgt Pepper is the first LP that The Beatles themselves had complete involvement in all aspects of production.
