Measures 6-11/16\" X 10-1/8\", 40 pp, b&w illustrations, Issue #1, published 1989 by Eternity Comics.
This particular comic book resulted in a fascinating court case in 1989-90, between the comic book publisher Eternity Comics, and Walt Disney Corporation. Eternity Comics had discovered that the 1930s MICKEY MOUSE newspaper strips (as drawn by Disney artist Floyd Gottfredson) had fallen out of copyright, and thus were in the public domain. The content of many of these strips included racial stereotypes and language which, by today\'s standards, would be considered hateful and racist, plus other content which today would be judged as grossly inappropriate. The Disney Corporation, obviously, was not about to republish these offensive strips; but Eternity Comics was not so hesitant, and desired to show the unseen and \"uncensored\" side of Mickey Mouse.
Walt Disney Corporation sued Eternity Comics, of course; and, while Eternity Comics was able to release a second issue of THE UNCENSORED MOUSE, a third issue never hit the stands (although it had been in production). Walt Disney Productions argued that, while these particular MICKEY MOUSE newspaper strips had indeed entered the public domain (and thus were fair game for anyone with a copier machine), the characters of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Horace Horsecollar, Pluto, etc., who were regularly pictured in these strips, still remained the trademarked and intellectual properties of Walt Disney Productions; and thus could not be reproduced in ANY format without the expressed permission of Disney -- which Eternity had not acquired. The end result being that Eternity Comics could reproduce ANY panels which did NOT include a trademarked Disney character (especially including Mickey Mouse!) -- basically resulting in a useless and totally pointless comic book. As such, the two released issues are somewhat of a collectible nature, both to comic book collectors, but to Disney and MICKEY MOUSE collectors as well.
