THORENSORIGINAL ART DECO VINTAGE PETROL POCKET LIGHTER C1920s withAdvertising

ThisThorens Original is a petrol/fluid pocket lighter originallypatented in 1919. This is known as the Thorens Original single clawversion and is manufactured from brass with a plain nickel platedfinish. The base is the inset version and marked “Thorens Swissmade” and “British Patent 137508”

TheAdvertising on the side of the lighter is for “CREAMESTA (Regd)Footwear & Underwear” and would have been used as advertisingthis companies products.

Theoriginal fuel screw is fitted into the back of the lighter and hasthe spare flint holder and the ring is fitted for attachment to awatchchain.

Themechanism works perfectly and produces a very strong spark. It willrequire lighter fluid and a flint if required to operate. Thelocking screw mechanism prevents lighter ignition when in the pocket. The lid snaps shut perfectly. The internal snuffer is missing.

Thelighter measures 59mm x 36mm x 11mm. Hermann Thorens were makingpetrol and butane lighters from 1919 until 1964.

Thefinish is still extremely good with no “brassing” around the edgeof the lid. There is no dings or dents and this lighter is in verygood used condition. The patina on this lighter is very good.
