Amazing Rice

Incredible!!! It took a truly talented sculptor and a steady hand to create this tiny piece of art from two grains of rice. The grains are mounted in a carved wooden temple with protective dome and are so well-preserved you can see the fine hairs on the husks. The whole thing is slightly bigger than a thimble - 1 1/8\" high. The front of the husks is sliced off and the inside of the rice is carved into two immortal figures. Likely from the Meiji period, maybe the early 1900s. Excellent condition.

This was found in an estate collection of miniatures, along with three other outstanding microcarvings (two Japanese, one Chinese) that I have for sale in other listings.
