Teapot Samovar –Highly Unique, important in early history of Samovars

This teapot samovar, dating to the early 19th century, holds a key place in theevolution of the Russian Samovar.

While thedevelopmental history of Russian samovar is not reliably documentedprior to about Usitsin\'s (Lisitsin\'s) production, it clearly drewfrom the sbitennik, which probably arose from the Kasmiri ketttle andsimilar products in Western Mongolia.

This unique teapotsamovar seems to have been an intermediate along the way to themodern samovar as the concept of the Kashmiri version morphed throughit to the modern style. It appears to have been made in the Urals, which would fit this idea.

The firebox extendsthrough the tank (and up the chimney extender), but does notterminate in a flange for the secondary teapot, but simply vents tothe air. The ash catcher is a small cup, which is removable forcleaning.

The secondary teapot(not included, but likely to be ceramic) sits on a flange which ispositioned over the hot liquid rather than the chimney.

A virtuallyidentical teapot samovar resides in the Russian Federation Museum ofDecorative – Applied and Folk Art, in Moscow, and its picture maybe seen in Russian Samovar(Moscow, 1991), p. 71.

This is a highly unique and rare item, and will command a centralposition in your collection.
