This wonderful rare divice would have been a must for an English gentleman back in the reign of Queen Victoria ( 1837-1901)
Called \"The Lippette\" the title is clearly stamped, as are the makers initials and full English silver hallmarks for Birminghand ( England) 1900, which was the final year of Queen Victoria\'s reign.
The Lippette, made from solid silver and very rare, was designed to fit across the rim of a cup or more probably, a drinking glass, to prevent the gentleman\'s moustache making contact with the liquid within.
We are all familiar with moustache cups but this unique device was obviously portable and the gentleman would have conveniently carried it with him when travelling or perhaps when visiting his club.
He would then be assured his fashionable moustache would remain elegant at all times!
The silver hallmarks and makers initials are amazingly clear and have not been worn down over time as so often happens with vintage silve object.
Must have for moustache collectables.
Perfect condition and original box.
