1790sEnglishGeorgian Sterling Silver Nutmeg GraterIn the shape of a COVERED URN.Stands steadily. Grater is not present.Marked SM inside,for Samuel Meriton II, London c.1775-1796. No other marks I can find.Plain surface, except for a rope design trim around the rim of the top, repeated around the knob top.No monogram.Inside is clean. Usual slight scuffing overall, consistent with age.The threading is a little inconsistent, see the slight gaps in the pictures.I did not attemptto screw it tightly or to force it, of course.1 7/8\" long, 4.7 cm; size of opening on the body size is 2.3 cm..5 troy ounces.
This urn is part of a group of 48 or so Georgian silver boxes, a collection I am selling for a lady.#40 From an estate collection.I have not cleaned it, it is as found.See the other pieces, as I get them listed. Good old quality.Happy to combine with my other lots, happy to ship internationally.
