These Rare Coaster have Full Sterling Silver Base Plates with Decorative Engraving and a Fine Armorial Crest
Here are two superb ornate Decanter Coasters made by the famous London silversmiths, Edward Barnard & Sons.
These elegant Decanter Coasters were made in 1838 in fully hallmarked English Sterling Silver, and unusually have full sterling silver base plates.
The Coasters feature intricate pierced work and acanthus leaf rim decorations.
A fine and unusual armorial crest of a fist grasping a large fish is engraved in the center of each Coaster.
The Coasters are overall in excellent condition, with some normal wear consistent with their age and usage – see photographs.

The Decanter Coasters are seven and a half inches across the top (7.5 ins / 19 cms) and inside they measure four and a half inches in diameter (4.5 ins / 11.5 cms)
These handsome Coasters are in lovely condition with no damage or repairs.
The hallmarks shown above are the makers’ mark “EE over B over JW” in a quatrefoil cartouche for the famous silversmiths, Edward, Edward Junior, John and William Barnard, the lion passant guarantee mark for English sterling silver, the leopard’s head the town mark for London, the Gothic letter “C” the date letter for 1838 and the duty mark the head of Queen Victoria.
