Written Nov. 26, 1948 on Arcan Ridge, Westport Connecticut letterhead and mailed Nov. 27 in an Arcan Ridge envelope. Addressed and sent to Captain Lane Carlson, c/o A. P. O. (Army Post Office) #500 which was in Japan at that time.

This letter came form the estate of Captain (later Colonel) Carlson, who was a fascinating woman - here is part of her obituary, as found on the Los Angeles Times website:

Carlson, Lane

June 6, 1919 - September 20, 2010

Colonel Lane Carlson was born in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, the only child of Guy and Mae Lane Carlson (long time residents of Studio City.) She graduated from Scotts Bluff High School, Sullins College, the University of Missouri and earned an MA from Stanford University. She was one of the first five colonels in the WACS. She was aide to General MacArthur in Japan and was Helen Keller\'s guide there. She was technical director on \"Francis Joins the WACS.\" Before retiring in 1973 at Fort Mac Arthur in San Pedro, CA, she was editor of Soldiers Magazine at the Pentagon.

Clearly Ms. Keller and her companion Polly Thomson bonded with captain Carlson while in Japan – here’s how he letter begins:

Dear Lane,

Your cable yesterday brought Polly and me a delightful sense that you were keeping Thanksgiving with us in spirit. Indeed we gave “an extra kampai” in our festive glasses. That darling thought is just like you, whom we feel very near us daily.

Condition - a few mild wrinkles and bends in both the letter and he cover; light soil.

Autograph

Thanks for offerding!
